This is one of my mom’s go-to recipes for any family event / holiday / dinner party / etc. I’ve been begging Lucinda for a long time to share this treasured recipe since my friends love it. So, I finally convinced her, in a moment of weakness, to let me snap a pic of the recipe card. Of course, they have chocolate stains on them.
The typed-out recipe is below since her handwriting could be too luxurious for some to read.
Ingredients for Pie:
- (1) 9-inch pie crust.
- My mom uses the one you can buy in any frozen section at a grocery store.
- No she does not have time to make her pie crust from scratch…
- 1 1/2 sticks of butter (or 12 TBSP)
- 1/2 cup of cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 cups of sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 to 3 teaspoons of flour
- 1 cup of buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1 cup of chopped pecans OR walnuts – your choice
Instructions:
- Prepare pie crust on a 9-inch pie plate. Just follow the instructions on the box.
- Melt the butter, then add the cocoa powder and sugar. Stir constantly until it is well blended and the temperature is cool.
- In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Then add the flour and buttermilk.
- Add the chocolate mixture to the egg, flour, and buttermilk mixture and stir.
- Then add the vanilla, salt and nuts, and stir
- Pour into pie crust. Make sure to place the pie plate on a cookie sheet in case in bubbles over in the oven.
- Make at 350 degrees for 45 min.
- Let cool for 30 min.
Bourbon Whipped Cream Ingredients:
