This is one of my mom’s go-to recipes for any family event / holiday / dinner party / etc. I’ve been begging Lucinda for a long time to share this treasured recipe since my friends love it. So, I finally convinced her, in a moment of weakness, to let me snap a pic of the recipe card. Of course, they have chocolate stains on them.

The typed-out recipe is below since her handwriting could be too luxurious for some to read.

Ingredients for Pie:

  • (1) 9-inch pie crust.
  • 1 1/2 sticks of butter (or 12 TBSP)
  • 1/2 cup of cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons of flour
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of chopped pecans OR walnuts – your choice

Instructions:

  • Prepare pie crust on a 9-inch pie plate. Just follow the instructions on the box.
  • Melt the butter, then add the cocoa powder and sugar. Stir constantly until it is well blended and the temperature is cool.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Then add the flour and buttermilk.
  • Add the chocolate mixture to the egg, flour, and buttermilk mixture and stir.
  • Then add the vanilla, salt and nuts, and stir
  • Pour into pie crust. Make sure to place the pie plate on a cookie sheet in case in bubbles over in the oven.
  • Make at 350 degrees for 45 min.
  • Let cool for 30 min.

Bourbon Whipped Cream Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream – make sure it is cold
  • 1 tbsp of your favorite Bourbon (or more)
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla bean paste
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp Powdered sugar
